The antiseptic effect of iodine is not inferior to that of other (antiseptic) agents and does not impair wound healing. Based on the available evidence from clinical trials, iodine is an effective antiseptic agent that shows neither the purported harmful effects nor a delay of the wound-healing process, particularly in chronic and burn wounds. ![]() A special type of abrasion, known as turf burn, has been associated with. Adverse effects, including thyroid function derailment, did not occur more frequently with iodine. The skin, or common integument, represents the largest organ of the human body. In individual trials, iodine was significantly superior to other antiseptic agents (such as silver sulfadiazine cream) and non-antiseptic dressings, but seemed inferior to a local antibiotic (Rifamycin SV MMX(®)) and, when combined with alcohol, to crude honey in reducing bacterial count and/or wound size. While most turf burns are minor and heal quickly, there are some complications that can occur if the injury is not properly treated or if there is a pre-existing condition that affects the healing process. This burn should heal on its own but can be treated with some topical medication. Turf burns, also known as grass burns, are a common injury among athletes, especially those who play sports on artificial turf. However, there won’t be any wetness or blistering. Iodine did not lead to a reduction or prolongation of wound-healing time compared with other (antiseptic) wound dressings or agents. A minor burn degree, first-degree burns affect the outermost layer of skin known as the epidermis. The use of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol can slow the healing process. If you can’t play sports until the sore heals, you could reinjure it and prolong your recovery. Nowadays many products are available to combat infections and thus to promote wound healing. When you sustain a turf burn, use a clean cloth or sterile gauze on the area and apply pressure to prohibit bleeding. It can take a couple of weeks for turf burn to heal. ![]()
